Storm Eowyn
Storm Eowyn hit Mearnskirk and left a number of owners in need of repairs to roof ridge tiles and damaged fence panels.
Unfortunately the trees within Mearnskirk took a battering, with some of the larger trees damaged causing major safety hazards. Fortunately no reports of injuries to anyone.
Mearnskirk Owners’ Association committee members went out after the storm to have a walk round and log any major tree damage.
After inspection, we noticed major damage in various parts of common ground, which is the responsibility of the Builders’ Consortium (Taylor Wimpey being the only active participant at present). There was also fallen trees in the grounds of the old nursing home, which is owned by Dundas Estates. We also noticed some large trees which looked very precarious although still upright.
Mearnskirk Owners’ Association felt it was appropriate to share this information and inform Taylor Wimpey, Dundas Estates and East Renfrewshire Council (as they are responsible for any immediate safety risk) via email, providing a selection of pictures and locations.
Within 24 hours, Dundas Estates had acknowledged and thanked us for our mailing and advised us that they would go out and assess their land as soon as possible.
East Renfrewshire Council also instructed tree surgeons to fell and cut back trees that were causing a risk to road users and pedestrians.
So far, we have had no response from Taylor Wimpey but we will monitor the situation and decide what to do next in making sure that they take their responsibilities seriously.
Hopefully we will be able to provide happier news in the future.
